Special moves, tricks and dekes.
Yes, in NHL 98 some players have the special abilities to execute special moves or tricks. You can execute them by pressing 'z' on the keyboard or button 4 if your using a game pad. The player must have the puck and in the offensive end to create a scoring attempt. If without the puck, the player will slide to block a shot.
The players can attempt different moves at different locations in the rink. Here's a list of them.

BEHIND THE NET
If the player is behind the net just to the side of the net, the player can attempt a wrap-around shot.
If the player is facing away from the net, activate a wrong leg shot.

PRIME SCORING AREA
The prime scoring area is directly in front of the goals and between the face-off circles. Here you can attempt many special moves to fool the goalie.
Naslund Shot, which the player spins and shoots at the same time.
Lemieux Shot, is a shot between the legs that can really fool the goalie.
Fleury Shot, is when the player will pull the puck behind his back where the goalie cannot see, then fake and finally shoot.

NOT PRIME SCORING AREA
The not prime scoring areas are anywhere else in the offensive end. Here dekes can be made as well as in conjunction with another shot (eg. a Roenick Spin and then  a Lemieux Shot). This can really fool the goalkeeper and create rebounds for other team members.
Bure Move is when the player will dribble the puck between his legs and then flick the puck towards the net.
Roenick Spin is a standard Deke move and is useful to use with another shot.
